Brand Tag Clouds

Sun, 11 May 2008 10:18:50 PDT
What is the first thing that pops into your head when you think of Starbucks? Introducing: Brand Tags. The basic idea of Brand Tags is that a brand exists entirely in people's heads. Therefore, whatever it is they say a brand is, is what it is. So, if you ask a bunch of people what a brand is and make a tag cloud, you should have a pretty accurate look at what the brand represents. Nice. Dig it: Brand Tags. Oh, and don't forget to check out Celeb Tags... So, what's the first thing that p

Americans Trending Toward “The Middle”

Sun, 11 May 2008 11:00:30 PDT
I doubt it’s any surprise to readers of this blog, but it’s obvious that the most effective political messaging over the past few years has been “unity” and “pragmatism.” 2008 will be no different… Sens. McCain and Obama explicitly base their appeals to voters on the premise that they can reach out both to independent voters who are affiliated with neither party, and to politicians of the opposite party. A precedent for such a governing style recently has been set: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger

Timon’s Friendship Adventure

Timon’s Friendship Adventure As regular readers will know, here at The Bioscope we try to keep up with current trends in silent filmmaking, while those who know me may know that I have an interest in that engagingly oddest of genres, the silent Shakespeare film. But who would have suspected that the two interests might come together, and that Timon of Athens would be its subject? And so I offer you Timon’s Friendship Adventure, which is a modern silent (in modern dress) based on William S

The exquisite color and contour with the vibrant luster in fashion is what women really love more. May it be an impeccable one or not, but the carefree touch that it generates on the body-and-dress is what fashion destines to get adept of.

Climate Change Alarmism: Lack of Sunspots Heralds New Little Ice Age?

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 10:48:17 PDT
—Ace Actually this is the sort of alarmism that alarms me, because it seems like science, rather than goo-goo Greenpeace political affinities, is driving it. THE scariest photo I have seen on the internet is www.spaceweather.com, where you will find a real-time image of the sun from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, located in deep space at the equilibrium point between solar and terrestrial gravity. What is scary about the picture is that there is only one tiny sunspot. Disconcerting

A Viewer Speaks

Wed, 02 Apr 2008 08:05:29 PDT
WE GET A good group of commenters here in Sticksville. Lately, we've been hearing quite a bit from a young woman from the Prairies, who has an openminded attitude toward Canadian shows, and an engaged and passionate way of defending them. On the subject of all the changes going on at the CBC, I think she's expressed the necessary corrective point of view better than Richard Stursberg, Kirstine Leyfield, or anybody else at the public broadcaster has managed to do. So I'm bumping her comment here

CBC to boost newsgathering in Alberta, but drops Calgary Newsworld programming

Thu, 03 Apr 2008 12:39:49 PDT
The CBC will dramatically increase resources devoted to covering local and national news in Alberta generally and Calgary and Edmonton in particular. Saying it’s moving to fulfill a commitment to local newsgathering announced nationally last year, CBC News will be doubling the number of newsgathering resources in Alberta by adding approximately 25 new assignments for television journalists based in Calgary and Edmonton to focus on local and national stories originating in Alberta. At the same

A news junkie’s dream …. or nightmare

Wed, 16 Apr 2008 10:46:47 PDT
I am a news junkie and admittedly if I had cable plus the extra TV I would probably have either CNN or CBC Newsworld on the whole time I’m in my room I jokingly call my office. So when I saw Brian Solis’ post about local broadcast news going social I was at first rather skeptical of the the idea; after all everything these days is having the social sticker slapped on its ass like it is going to be the road to instant riches or something. But when I clicked on the LiveNewsComeras.com link (go

Instead of dealing with the serious issue at hand, alleged election overspending, the Con's are as usual pointing fingers at the Lib's and anyone else they can think of as a diversion. One of their favourite attack dogs, Pierre Poilievre apparently sees a conspiracy here. Ottawa-area Conservative Pierre Poilievre (PWAH'-lee-ehv) goes further, accusing Elections Canada of inviting the Liberal party to watch the raid unfold. Note to Petey. The Lib's have said that they saw the story on Newsworl

Cons: RCMP Raid Was a 'Publicity Stunt'

Wed, 16 Apr 2008 13:10:43 PDT
Pass the tissues. Oh how I weep for those poor victims of the RCMP raid of the Cons' headquarters. Not. The tories are scrambling to paint themselves as being oppressed after yesterday's raid (which continues today). The problem is that they appointed the two Elections Canada officials they're now suing and that they applaud the RCMP (even protecting Zaccardelli to the bitter end) except when they're the targets of a legally-sanctioned warrant. And now, they're also trying to implicate the Li

Francis Ford Coppola now calling Buenos Aires home (The Post and Courier)
